A two story home north of Somonauk, in the 11,000 block of Pine Road, is considered to be a total loss after a fire destroyed it Friday morning. The Somonauk Fire Protection District says two people were checked over by paramedics, but no one had to go to the hospital.

Firefighters were called just before 6:30 Friday morning. The family at the home had reported a fire in a bedroom, but when fire crews arrived the home was fully engulfed in flames. There were four adults and one child in the home at the time.

Firefighters worked to protect nearby buildings and had to demolish what was left of the home after the fire had been put out. Somonauk Fire Chief Pat Colford noted that fire fighting efforts were impeded by fireworks and ammunition going off because the fire was so hot.

The cause of the fire is undetermined. Damage is estimated at well over $200,000.
