A Newburgh road paving business lost its building after a fire broke out Tuesday night.

Paul Theriault, the owner of Precision Paving in Newburgh, said on Wednesday morning that authorities had declared the building a total loss.

The Newburgh Fire and Rescue Department was alerted around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday that a fire had broken out at the business on Carmel Road North, Theriault said. Neighbors also called Theriault about the blaze, he said.

No one was inside the building at the time. He lost tools, two trucks, a roller and paver, Theriault said. The cause is under investigation.

“You never think something like this could happen to you,” Theriault said.

Correction: A previous version of this story misstated the business’ insurance status.
