Vehicles in a car carrier caught fire in Epping on Friday, leading to the temporary closure of a busy road.
A section of Route 27 was closed near Route 125 after fire crews responded to the scene. As of 5 p.m., the road is back open.
The car carrier was traveling south on Route 125 when a passerby noticed black smoke coming from one of the vehicles and flagged the car carrier’s driver.
The front of the Jeep on the bottom part of the car carrier caught fire before spreading to the front portion of a van on the top part of the car carrier, officials said.
The assistant fire chief told WMUR there were no concerns for explosions because the fires were contained to the front parts of the involved vehicles. Gas tanks are typically in the rear end of vehicles.
Police are crediting the driver for acting quickly. Officials said the driver positioned the burning trailer on the side of the road and pulled the cab into a gas station parking lot away from the scene.
No one was hurt.
It’s not known what started the fire, officials said.
