A portion of a train broke out in flames late Thursday night in Sparks.

The fire was reported just before 10:30 p.m. near the area of I-80 and Vista Blvd. on Feb. 3.

Authorities said the fire broke out in a single train car and burning sheet metal made it hard to knock down the flames. Multiple agencies were eventually able to control the fire.

Nearby roadways were shut down for some time but have since reopened.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
