Coroner: Woman found in Monterey Inn death deemed suicide

Update 2/10/2022: The Monterey County Coroner's Office has deemed the death of an Amarillo woman whose body was found on Jan. 30 at the Monterey Pines Inn a suicide.

MONTEREY, Calif. (KION) Monterey Police have identified a woman who was found dead inside a motel room in Monterey Sunday.

Police say the woman was Rebecca Blakeney, 37, of Amarillo, Texas.

She was found dead at the Monterey Pines Inn on Munras Ave. Sunday afternoon.

Police said their investigation revealed that Blakeney died on the night of Jan. 29.

Police are calling this a suspicious death, the case is still under investigation, but the Monterey Police believe there is no threat to the public.

Officers tell KION that they are reviewing security footage and are interviewing guests that were in the area Saturday.

Investigators would not confirm whether this was a suspicious death or homicide investigation. Police say they are waiting for the coroner to finish their investigation into the cause of death.
