A SigAlert has been issued due to a big rig fire that has impacted traffic on the southbound 5 freeway in Santa Clarita.
At around 7:45 p.m. Monday, first responders received reports of a big rig fire on the southbound 5 freeway near Lake Hughes Road in Castaic, according to Martin Rangel, supervising dispatcher with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“It was reported as a semi truck fire,” Rangel said. “There was a fully involved big rig trailer.”
A SigAlert has been issued for the area near the fire.
Initially, the two right lanes of the freeway were blocked near the area, but now only the Lake Hughes off-ramp is closed, according to the SigAlert.
Fire crews arrived on scene at 7:52 p.m. and were on scene for at least half an hour battling the flames, according to Rangel.
No major injuries were reported.
