Fire crews respond to Water Oak Drive in Windsor, one person confirmed dead

WINDSOR, S.C. (WJBF) – Fire crews in Windsor, S.C. responded to 526 Water Oak Drive Friday morning.

The call went out about 5:45 that a structure is fully engulfed and another nearby structure is in danger of catching fire.

A woman told NewsChannel 6 reporter Kim Vicker’s that she heard a loud explosion and that her brother was inside and didn’t make it out.

The woman also said it took the volunteer fire department awhile to arrive on the scene.

Captain Eric Abdullah with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office confirms it took firefighters about 30 minutes to arrive on the scene. He said because these first responders are volunteers, they are at home when fire calls are dispatch. Captain Abdullah said that they have to go to the station from home, get equipment and go to the scene.
