UPDATE 3:00 p.m.: VDOT traffic cameras show that the vehicle fire on I-81 south in Montgomery County has been cleared.

Traffic is moving in all lanes at the area of mile marker 116.1.


UPDATE 1:40 p.m.: A vehicle fire is slowing traffic and creating backups on a stretch of south I-81 in Montgomery County.

According to VDOT, the vehicle fire is located at mile marker 116.1 where the southbound left lane, right lane and right shoulder are all closed due to the vehicle fire.

Traffic is backed up around two miles.

Drivers are urged to find another route.

Also…the crash on Route 57, west of Bassett, has been cleared and traffic is said to be moving normally around that area.


HENRY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – A crash has shut down a stretch of Route 57 west of Bassett.

According to VDOT, the crash is located in the area of Fairystone Park Highway and Stones Dairy Road.

A detour has been set up as all eastbound and westbound lanes have been shut down.

Traffic is being rerouted onto Route 687, onto Route 912, then to Route 1231 and back onto Route 57.

Drivers can expect significant delays if traveling in this area.
