A medical emergency resulted in a car striking a building near the intersection of Reynolds Road and Bellflower Road in Mentor on April 15.

According to the Mentor Fire Department, at approximately 5:51 pm., rescue was dispatched for a medical emergency at the intersection of Reynolds Road and Bellflower Road. A follow-up report indicated a car struck a building in the 6800 block of Reynolds Road.

The driver, a 70-year-old male from Willoughby, reported that he lost his vision while driving, according to a news release from the city.

The investigation determined that the driver had been southbound on Reynolds Road when he lost consciousness. His vehicle drove off the road to the left, struck a tree, and then struck the building at 6831 Reynolds Road, according to the release. The building, which serves as the office for the adjoining church, was unoccupied at the time of the crash.

According to the department, the driver was evaluated and transported to Hillcrest Hospital.

Utilities were contacted and requested to respond to the scene to secure both gas and electric to the structure.
