An SUV went up in flames along a northeast Missouri highway on Saturday afternoon.
The blaze then sparked a grass fire that burned approximately half an acre along Highway 11, six miles east of Kirksville.
A passerby reported the fire at 1:50 p.m. Adair County Fire and the Kirksville Fire Department (KFD) responded.
Lt. Aaron Pippin with KFD told KTVO the SUV, which was parked on the edge of the roadway, was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
Pippin said the driver was not with the vehicle.
Highway 11 was blocked for 30 minutes while crews put out the fire.
Traffic was then reduced to one lane for an additional hour-and-a-half until a tow truck could haul off the charred vehicle. It is a total loss.
Pippin said the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
The Adair County Sheriff's Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted at the scene.
