Driver’s medical episode leads to Jersey City crash with cycylist, cars and building: police

A Jersey City driver apparently experiencing a medical episode struck at least two parked cars, drove up a sidewalk, struck a cyclist, a tree and a building during the morning rush hour, authorities said.

The crash occurred in the area of Bergen and Fairmount avenues at approximately 7:20 a.m., Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said.

Police found that what was initially believed to be a hit-and-run was the result of a medical episode after they managed to stop the driver of a Ford pickup truck on Montgomery Street.

The cyclist suffered an injury to his foot that is not considered life-threatening and the driver of the pickup truck was taken to local hospital for treatment.

Reports of multiple people being struck could not be confirmed.
