Hull, Iowa — A truck and storage shed was nearly destroyed in a fire on Thursday, January 11, 2024, near Hull. Four semi-trucks in the building were damaged and one was destroyed in the blaze.
According to Hull Fire Chief Greg Van Roekel, at about 6:40 a.m., the Hull Fire Department was called to the report of a shed on fire at 3365 Ironwood Avenue, two miles east and a mile and a half south of Hull.
The chief says the fire department saw heavy smoke coming from the 60′ x 120′ building as they approached the scene. He says most of the fire was in the attic when they arrived. He says they gained access to the attic to extinguish the fire.
Van Roekel says no injuries were reported.
The fire department was assisted by the Rock Valley Fire Department via their auto-aid agreement. He says they also requested the Sioux Center Fire Department’s aerial truck and water from the Boyden Fire Department.
He says the cause of the fire appeared to be an issue with one of the trucks stored inside.
Chief Van Roekel reports that there was major damage and the facility could be totaled.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene until 10:30 a.m. — for nearly four hours.
