Big rig fire causes traffic headache on North Freeway near FM 1960

The Ponderosa Fire Department responded to the scene. The big rig was hauling a tar product that caught fire, the sheriff said.

HOUSTON — Traffic on the I-45 North Freeway just passed FM 1960 was slowed down for around two hours Saturday due to an 18-wheeler fire, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Harris County deputies and the Ponderosa Fire Department responded to the scene. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the big rig appeared to be hauling some sort of tar product which has caught fire.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez first posted about the shutdown at 2:50 p.m. Nearly two hours later, at 5:42 p.m., he tweeted that all lanes were re-opened.
