Hay being hauled by semi-truck catches fire on I-96 at M-6

UPDATE: MDOT officials report the eastbound I-96 ramp to M-6 has fully reopened.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A load of hay being hauled by a semi-truck caught fire Saturday morning on westbound I-96 at M-6.

Michigan State Police troopers reported the fire around 8:40 a.m. Saturday, July 15, and said no one was injured.

Troopers are asking drivers to use caution when driving where I-96 converges with M-6, as firefighters are continuing to extinguish hotspots on the load of hay.

The Michigan Department of Transportation reports the right lane and right shoulder of the eastbound I-96 ramp to M-6 has been blocked since around 8:05 a.m.

The ramp is adjacent to the westbound I-96 ramp to M-6.
