Saturday semi-truck fire

Posted

David Barron parked his semi at the shop he owns near downtown Flandreau this past Saturday around 1:30 p.m. He had made a milk delivery earlier in the day and was done for the weekend.
Or so he thought.

Around 5:00 p.m. he and his brother, McClain, got a call from local police. David’s truck was on fire.
Flandreau firefighters responded to the location just blocks from the fire station — a block south of Pipestone Avenue and one block west of Wind Street. Despite the proximity, it was too late to save the cab. Flames engulfed and destroyed the entire front end of the semi.
“Our best guess is that it was some sort of an electrical problem,” McClain said. “It looks like it might have started in the firewall or under the dash. We’re just lucky it didn’t happen while it was being driven down the highway or with someone in it.”
While the brothers have yet to hear back from their insurer, the truck, he said, appears to be a total loss. They want to thank Flandreau City Police and local firefighters for noticing the fire and for getting the flames extinguished before any more damage was done.
The Barron brothers primarily haul milk, hay, and gravel. They started their trucking company in 2007 and built the shop in Flandreau off of Center Street in 2013.
