A 1990 Ford E-150 van inside an attached garage caught on fire today in a driveway in Elkton, according to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal.
The vehicle caught on fire today just before 2:30 p.m. at 115 Bywood Road in Elkton.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal said that the owner of the van, an 83-year old man, started up the van and a fire broke out under the engine compartment.
He attempted to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher, and he was assisted by a neighbor who attempted to use his own extinguisher before the fire extended beyond their control.
According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal, the fire department contained the fire to the garage, and the inside of the home sustained no damage. The vehicle was later removed from the garage.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal reported no injuries and the fire took 10 minutes to control.
The vehicle/engine compartment of the van was determined as the area of origin of the fire.
