Driver suffers medical issue, causes crash on Interstate 55 near Edwardsville

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (WICS) — The Illinois State Police responded to a crash on Interstate 55 South at mile marker 25 near Edwardsville on Friday.

ISP says the driver of a gray SUV, had a medical issue and briefly lost consciousness.

The SUV left the roadway to the right and overturned down an embankment.

The driver was airlifted to a regional hospital in regard to the medical issue. The passenger was transported to a regional hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
