A fire at an auto salvage yard created a large plume of smoke Monday afternoon in Des Moines.The Des Moines Fire Department said they arrived to find a pile of dismantled auto parts burning on private property. It took 400 feet of firehose to get to the flames.The fire department said the fire was accidental.No buildings were damaged in the fire.In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Des Moines police said SE 21st Street southbound was closed at Maury Street while crews put out the fire.
