Cortlandville, N.Y. — A large multi-building fire in Cortland County heavily damaged a recycling plant and the building next to it on Friday, firefighters said.

At 5:22 p.m. firefighters were called to Rosen’s Recycling on Route 11 in Cortlandville for a fire, according to a Facebook Post from the Cortlandville Fire Department.

The arriving firefighters saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the building, firefighters said.

The fire spread to the roof of the building next door, Sons of Sam Motorcycle Club, and quickly collapsed their roof, firefighters said.

Firefighters were unable to fight the fires from inside the buildings and had to attack from the outside, firefighters said.

It took 45 minutes for them to extinguish the fire and then they remained on scene for several hours to make sure the fire was out, firefighters said.

The local Highway Departments used sand to prevent possible contaminating runoff, firefighters said.

There were no injuries, firefighters said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
