Train fire stops freight train in Butte County Monday morning

PALERMO, Calif. 2:24 p.M. UPDATE - Firefighters extinguished a fire on a train early Monday morning in Butte County.

CAL FIRE said the fire was reported around 3:45 a.m. and the southbound BNSF freight train stopped near Palermo Road and Railroad Avenue in Palermo.

Butte County/CAL FIRE said the firefighters put out the fire that was burning in the engine of the train.

No injuries were reported.

The train was traveling from Pasco, Washington to Fresno, California. The train is waiting for a new crew and is expected to start moving Monday afternoon.
