An accidental fire in Harford County is under investigation, according to fire officials.
Firefighters from the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene Tuesday just after 11:30 a.m. near Locust Lane in Bel Air.
It took 30 firefighters 20 minutes to control the flames discovered by the owner.
The owner was home and discovered the fire after hearing a "popping" sound from the garage., according to a news release. He discovered smoke from under the hood and attempted to push the car out of the garage.
The fire quickly spread out of his control, and he and his adult daughter were able to safely escape. Investigators credit the fire department for quickly extinguishing and containing the bulk of the fire within the garage.
Fire officials believe the fire originated within the engine compartment of the BMW which was located inside the garage. The cause of the fire was ruled accidental due to unspecified electrical and mechanical failure.
Nearly $100,000 in loss to the two story, single family dwelling and the 2014 BMW 528i, which caught fire. An additional $50,000 loss in contents was also reported.
