Avenel Firefighters Battle Car Blaze; Overturned Truck

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Volunteers from the Avenel Fire Department had a few busy days, responding to a dramatic car fire and an overturned tractor-trailer in their neighborhood.

Avenel firefighters were dispatched to St. George's Avenue residence on Tuesday night, Feb. 13th, after a vehicle burst into flames very close to an occupied residential building.

Firefighters from District #5 found a dramatic, fully-involved fire upon their arrival that soon that spread from the car’s engine to the rest of the vehicle, destroying it.

Their effort prevented flames from spreading to the nearby residential building, authorities said.

Avenel volunteers were also dispatched on Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14) to Blair Road and Omar Avenue for an overturned tractor trailer with a ruptured saddle tank.

The Middlesex County Hazmat team also responded to mitigate fuel and oil leaks, and waited on-scene for a tow company to upright and secure the tractor trailer and its cargo.
