AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Two people died in a fire over the weekend.
According to the Amarillo Fire Department, a camper behind a home in the 2400 block of NW 1st Street caught fire around11 a.m. Sunday.
Firefighters had to force their way into the camper where they found two bodies.
"Our sympathies go out to the families and loved ones affected by this tragic incident," said the Amarillo Fire Department.
The cause of the fire is undermined.
"This incident serves as a reminder to our community about the importance of smoke detectors," said AFD. "The Amarillo Fire Department urges all residents to ensure they have properly functioning smoke detectors installed in their homes. Smoke detectors play a crucial role in providing early warning in the event of a fire, contributing to the safety of our households."
