18-wheeler carrying gas catches fire, shuts down exit ramp on I-20

AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - An 18-wheeler fire has shut down exit 18 on Interstate 20 eastbound on Friday morning.

According to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, the fire started at 5:44 a.m.

According to the Aiken County Fire Department, the brakes and rear wheels are what led to the start of the fire.

The tanker was carrying gas, according to the Aiken County Fire Department.

South Carolina Highway Patrol has confirmed there was no injuries.

Around 3:40 p.m., authorities say the exit will be closed until further noticed.

Around 11:54 a.m. the Department of Transportation is setting up a detour, officials say.

The fire was put out as of 7:45 a.m.

Also in the same area at mile marker 17, an accident involving two 18-wheelers was reported. One injury has been reported in the accident, but the extent of the injury is unknown.

Authorities say, the victim was transported to Augusta University hospital to be furthered evaluated.

According to the Aiken County Fire Department, one 18-wheeler has overturned.

As of 10:34 a.m., crews are still on scene.

Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, Aiken County Fire Department, Eureka Fire Department, Graniteville Fire Department, Sage Mill Fire Department, and Center Fire Department have responded to the scene.
